RAD 2015

Grades 1-8

7+ years

The Graded Examinations in Dance syllabi provide a broad practical dance education, where the student develops technical, musical and performance skills, incorporating Ballet, Free Movement and Character.

  • Ballet: the foundation of the RAD syllabus
  • Free Movement: movements influenced by other dance styles such as Natural Movement, Contemporary and Classical Greek Dance
  • Character: the theatrical presentation of national dance, accompanied by music which has been freely adapted for the theatre. The three styles – Hungarian, Russian and Polish – were selected because of their historic importance in the development of the nineteenth century full-length classical ballets.

This means that candidates who have achieved a pass or higher in Grades 6, 7, 8, Intermediate and Advanced Foundation, can use their RAD exam result towards their points tariff when applying to university or higher education in the UK.

Vocational graded classes are by invitation or audition only.
